QFC announces launch of Ramadan CSR initiative

The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority has today announced the launch of its Ramadan Corporate Social Responsibility campaign, called “Sandouq”.

Sandouq – which is Arabic for box – is a unique initiative in observance of the Holy month of Ramadan and reflecting its spirit of giving and philanthropy. The campaign involved distributing gift boxes to the families of 200 Nepalese workers currently taking part in the construction work at Msheireb Downtown Doha, supported by Msheireb Properties.

The workers were given a shopping list to choose items such as children toys, educational materials, home goods and necessities to send home to their families. The QFC shouldered the full cost for the items, in addition to the shipping fees.

Ooredoo provided support by setting up face-time and phone booths for the workers, to allow them to call their families in Nepal to inform them that they would be receiving a Sandouq gift box. Ooredoo also provided free calling cards to all 200 workers.

Sheikh Mohammed Abdulla Al-Thani, Ambassador for the initiative, led a team of volunteers including Qatari school students from Al Noor Institute, Amna Mahmoud Al Jaida Primary School for Girls and Al Rashad Independent School for Boys to the construction site in Msheireb where they packed the boxes with the selected goods. Volunteers also wrote heartfelt notes to the families, which were included in the gift boxes.

Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, QFC Authority Chief Executive Officer, said, “I am very proud to announce our new and distinctive CSR initiative, Sandouq. I would like to thank all the volunteers that took part, Sheikh Mohammed for being our ambassador and our supporters Msheireb Properties and Ooredoo in helping us make our CSR campaign such a success.” He added, “The workers at Msheireb Downtown Doha are building what will be the QFC’s home and what will also be a unique landmark for Doha and the region.” He concluded, “We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to them.
