Emirates Islamic makes Apple Pay available to customers

Emirates Islamic, one of the leading Islamic financial institutions in the UAE, has announced that its customers can now use Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay that is fast and convenient.

Continuing its drive towards digital transformation, Emirates Islamic puts customer centricity at the heart of technological innovation, offering its customers a modern, Shari'ah-compliant banking experience. With a rising demand from the bank’s customer base for connected, smart banking solutions, Apple Pay will enable Emirates Islamic cardholders to make payments straight from their mobile devices for an efficient, speedy and secure payment experience.

Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards. In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, and Apple Watch. As an initial offer, Emirates Islamic will give AED 100 to its customers on first usage of Apple Pay.

“We are pleased to bring Apple Pay to our customers. As a leading Islamic bank in a country with among the highest global rates of smartphone penetration, Emirates Islamic continues to push for innovation in the Islamic financial services sector. We are always innovating to cater to the growing demands of a smartphone-friendly population. Digital transformation with a customer-centric focus is key to our growth strategy and we remain committed to offering products and services that are aligned to our customers’ needs as well as the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai’s vision to make Dubai the global capital of the Islamic Economy,” said Wasim Saifi, Deputy CEO - Consumer Banking and Wealth Management, Emirates Islamic.

Security, privacy and convenience is at the core of Apple Pay. When you use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are neither stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, each device is assigned a unique device account number which is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the secure element on the phone. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

Online shopping in apps and on websites accepting Apple Pay is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, negating the need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. When paying for goods and services on the go in apps or Safari, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6 and later, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later. Apple Pay can be used in Safari on any Mac introduced in or after 2012 running macOS Sierra and confirm the payment with iPhone 6 or later or Apple Watch, or with Touch ID on the new MacBook Pro.
