Turkey to transfer opposition Isbank stake to treasury

 

The Republican People’s Party (CHP) owns a 28 per cent stake in Isbank, given to it by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic.

The Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party will push through parliament a law to allow the transferring to the treasury of the main opposition party’s shares in Isbank, reported Reuters.

Erdogan, said that the AK Party will bring the issue to parliament.

The announcement follows a report by a pro-government newspaper Sabah stating that the AKP was in the process of drawing up a draft law facilitating the transfer.
