by Kudakwashe MuzoriwaThe UAE Cabinet has approved the issuance of a five-year multi-entry tourist visa for all nationalities, a move that is expected to bolster the tourism economy and affirm the country's position as a global tourist destination.
In a tweet, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said, “We receive more than 21 million tourists annually and our aim is to establish the country as a major global tourist destination.”
Sheikh Mohammed said that the new visa system will allow tourists multiple entries into the country over five years, without disclosing the visa application fee.
Currently, tourists can visit the UAE with a free multiple entry visa for up to 90 days, from the date of entry.
Eager to diversify their economies away from reliance on hydrocarbons, Arabian Gulf nations have been taking major steps to encourage tourism in recent years. Saudi Arabia opened applications for online visas in September 2019 while Qatar scrapped visas altogether for citizens of 80 countries in 2017.
